Letting the GUILT go.
I posted this video because I had been feeling guilty that Weston wasn't in preschool this semester. I know many moms that feel the pressure to have tons of structured activities for their young children. I like what this Today Show segment said about letting kids play/learn/explore with out the electronic learning toys or signing them up for violin/art/chorus when they are 18mo. I always tried to make myself feel like my kids would be OK even though my budget couldn't give them those things. I like knowing that they will be just as (if not more) innovative in the work force than those who had violin/art/chorus and a personal computer at 2 years old. My favorite quote is at the end when the MFT said that, " Before the age of 10, their physical brains develops through play." I love when scientific analysis tells everyone to keep it old school.

Oh my gosh!! I guess we should just give our kids a cardboard box and some string and let them have at it!! What a wonderful piece of eveidence that kids need to just PLAY!! Thanks Amber
Wow! (I think I start all my post on your blog this way, because you are so amazing!) Thank you so much for that! I have felt myself feeling guilty for the same reasons lately! I am letting that go. I want smart and innovative kids, that are well adjusted to all situations!
I know that Carson isn't even 18 months yet but Andrew and I have already has the preschool discussion because they are always saying that the preschool kids are better prepared. After watching this segment, I'll have to let him know that he was right, kids don't need two years of preschool, just play. Thanks for sharing!
There is so much pressure here to start putting your kids in the pre-school/daycare when they're 2 . .I've been a lone rebel on that issue, keeping George home until he was 4. People always ask why I don't send Thomas too. "Isn't he bored?" What? He's only 2. he hasn't learned how to be bored yet.
I agree! although we have way too many activities at my house...I am not sure how they all happen. this summer we did nothing and LOVED it!
I was reading your post below and I have done that before too with Ethan, I pulled the cart back and went flipping over the back onto the floor! AAAh! I hope you guys are doing well. we will have to have you over for dinner sometime:)
